Isabel Nibbe age 106 of Westbrook passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at Westbrook Good Samaritan Care Center. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 22 at Grace Lutheran Church in Westbrook. Visitation is 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Westbrook Funeral Home with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Interment is in Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Rosehill Township. Stephens Funeral Service – Westbrook Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Isabel Ella (Engler) Nibbe, daughter of John and Mathilda (Grams) Engler, was born October 2, 1907 in Cottonwood County, Minnesota. She was baptized in infancy October 22, 1907 by Rev. J. Dachstimer and confirmed March 25, 1923 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Rosehill Township by Pastor Wellner. Isabel received her education in School District 56. On March 30, 1932 Isabel and Huldrich Nibbe were united in marriage at Emmanuel Lutheran Church by Pastor A. W. Scharfe. The couple made their home on Isabel’s grandparents’ farm for 50 years. In April 1982 they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and then moved into Westbrook in November 1982. Huldrich and Isabel celebrated their 76th wedding anniversary in March 2008 and Huldrich passed away in May 2008. Isabel was a longtime member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Rosehill Township where she served as president, treasurer, and secretary for the Ladies’ Aid, and was later a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Westbrook. She loved working with her flowers, sewing, and helping with quilt making at church.
Isabel is survived by her brother Clarence (Verna) Engler; sister-in-law Marie Nibbe; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Huldrich, brother Elder Engler, and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
