Regina Marie (Swoboda) Wohnoutka was born July 23, 1938 to Joe R. and Beatrice (Knisley) Swoboda on the family farm in Henryville Township, Renville County, Minnesota, delivered by her grandmother Knisley. She attended country school in Henryville Township. In 1956, Regina graduated from Redwood Falls High School. She then took employment for the next 4 years at Redwood County ASC office. In 1958, Regina caught the eye of a returned sailor of four years, Alvin Wohnoutka. On November 5, 1960, Regina and Alvin were united in marriage at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Bechyn. Regina and Alvin then spent the next 25 years farming in the areas of Olivia, Belview, and Milroy. In 1985, Regina and Alvin moved into the town of Milroy, with Regina living there until 2010 when her health needed advanced care, and resided at Sunwood Care Center, Garnette Gardens Assisted Living and Memory Unit, and lastly Wood Dale Nursing Home in Redwood Falls. Although various health conditions were part of most of her adult life, Regina gracefully dealt with them and used her talents in a number of ways. She was a perfectionist in her detail in knitting, sewing, and crocheting. Summer and fall, Regina would be canning a number of items from her garden, which her family then enjoyed all year. She was a wonderful cook, eager to try new things often. Regina and Alvin enjoyed many Saturday evenings, gracefully dancing to polkas and waltzes, with Sunday afternoon radio tuned in to old time polkas. Routinely, the party didn’t end when the dance was over. Regina often had friends over for coffee and a taste of her latest dessert. She had an outgoing personality and a very caring heart. Regina had a number of women friends from school and groups from areas where she lived. Not only her own family, Regina would remember birthdays and holidays of her numerous godchildren.
Regina is survived by her son Brian of Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren Joel, Kaitlin, and Erik of Luverne; and brothers Robert (Jan) Swoboda and Maynard (Barb) Swoboda, both of Redwood Falls. She is preceded in death by her husband Alvin, parents Joe and Beatrice, infant brother Rodney, and father and mother-in-law Anton and Bessie.
Blessed be her memory.
