Margaret G. Jorges, age 91 of Wabasso, passed away Monday, November 2, 2015 at Golden Living Center in Wabasso. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 5 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Wabasso. Visitation is 9:00-11:00 a.m. Thursday at the church. Margaret G. Jorges was born July 6, 1924 in Wabasso, Minnesota to Christ and Gertrude (Schunk) Moelter. She attended grade school at St. Anne’s and graduated from Wabasso Public School in 1943. Margaret furthered her education at Mankato Commercial College for 1-1/2 years. She worked as a bookkeeper at Sand and Gravel in Mankato and Wabasso Farmers Elevator, and at Wabasso State Bank until she retired in 1989 with 35 years of service. Margaret was united in marriage to Henry A. Jorges on February 7, 1948, and to that union a daughter, Gloria, was born. The couple made their home in Wabasso where Henry ran a restaurant. Margaret supported various charities and volunteered at them also. She served as President and Treasurer of the Legion Auxiliary and Director of the 2nd District American Legion Auxiliary. She also was treasurer of the Senior Citizens, Salvation Army, and Community Club, and volunteered with the American Red Cross Bloodmobile and St. Anne’s School working with box top labels. Margaret was nominated for Senior Citizen of the Year. She enjoyed going on motor coach vacations to interesting parts of the country with her daughter, camping and fishing trips with family, and going to Jackpot and various casinos to play Bingo and the machines. Margaret loved gardening, playing cards and word finds, watching “Wheel of Fortune” and the Minnesota Twins, and spending time with friends and family.
Margaret is survived by her sisters Veronica Stolp of Rochester and Lucille Berdan of Sleepy Eye, brother Sy (Mary Lou) Moelter of New Ulm, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Christ and Gertie Moelter, parents-in-law Ida and Al Jorges, brother Joseph in infancy, brothers-in-law Jerry Stolp and Richard Berdan, sisters-in-law Alyce (Archie) Dennistoun and Ev (Neil) Weltsch, and daughter Gloria Cuka on June 6, 2015.
