Genevieve ColwellGenevieve Colwell, age 91 of Morton, passed away at her home on Wednesday, April 21, 2010.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 26 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Morton.
Visitation will be held 5:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Redwood Valley Funeral Home in Redwood Falls with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday. Interment is in Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Morton. The Redwood Valley Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Genevieve Rose (Hogan) Colwell was born in Birch Cooley Township on December 28, 1918 to Thomas and Elizabeth (Lorden) Hogan. She spent her childhood on a farm in Birch Cooley Township. In 1935, after graduating from Morton High School, she attended “Normal Training” for teaching and taught in a one-room schoolhouse for seven years. Genevieve married Fred (John) Colwell in 1942 and they had eleven children. She returned to work at Control Data when her children reached school age, and continued working there until her retirement. Genny enjoyed sewing, bowling, square dancing, gardening, cooking, playing cards and Bingo. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Morton and was active in CCW until she became ill in 1996.
Genevieve is survived by nine children; 24 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a brother, John (and Bernie) Hogan of Denison, IA. She was preceded in death by her husband John, daughters Peggy and Betty, and two brothers Francis and Leo Hogan.
