Nathan Stephens was born and raised in Redwood Falls. He graduated from Redwood Valley High School. After studying pre-medicine at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN, he continued his education at the University of Minnesota. While at the U of M, he worked at the Anatomical Bequest Program. Nathan graduated with distinction in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mortuary Science, and delivered the commencement address.
Nathan also received a national award only given to two beneficiaries in the nation; the J.M. Nolte Scholar Award given for academic excellence and overall achievement throughout one’s entire education.
He worked for several years in the Twin Cities Metro Area, at Evans Nordby Funeral Homes in Brooklyn Center and Osseo, and Mattson Funeral Home in Forest Lake, before returning to Redwood Falls to manage the new Redwood Valley Funeral Home. After working at the funeral home for six years, he was able to purchase the funeral home in 2006, along with the five other locations and a crematory all in southwest Minnesota.
Nathan married his high school sweetheart, Valerie. They have three children, Andrew, Blake and Claire. His interests are participating in various sports, running and working out, camping, following the Minnesota Vikings, traveling, fishing and spending time at the lake with his family and friends.
