Thomas “Tommy John” Leith, Sr. age 65 of Redwood Falls and the Lower Sioux Community, journeyed to the Spirit World on Friday, June 23, 2017 at his home. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 27 at St. Cornelia’s Episcopal Church on the Lower Sioux Community. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. Monday, June 26 at the Lower Sioux Guild Hall. Burial is in St. Cornelia’s Episcopal Cemetery. Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Thomas John Leith Sr., Wakiyan Ozuya “Thunder Warrior” was born March 29, 1952 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Marcella Leith. His aunt and uncle, Ariella and Jackson Leith, raised him from when he was six months old. Tom was baptized and confirmed at Bishop Whipple Mission on the Lower Sioux Community. He attended Morton High School. Tom served in the US Army from 1969 to 1973 including two tours in Vietnam. Tom was proud of his military service and was very glad he was able to serve. His mother, Ariella, passed away in 2001. On April 13, 2007 he married Michelle Leith. Tom achieved sobriety and enjoyed every new day being sober and clean. He attended AA where he spent time trying to help others get sober and was always looking for the good in them. Tom enjoyed motorcycles, cars, fishing, and walking.
Tom is survived by his wife Michelle Leith; children: Tom Jr., Charles, and Marcus Leith, Amy Chouanard, Lisa Paz, Germaine Schmidt, Fred Pendleton and their mother Margaret; daughter Ariella Leith; step daughters Charie Heil and Renee Gonzales; grandchildren: Lucas, Keenan, Miranda, Mary, Mercedes, Morgan, Thomas, Silas, Marcus Jr., Merissa, Michael, Joulsten, Joseph, Victor, Alysa, Nicholas, Tawnee, Quincy, Salicia, Arriana, Raul, Xander, Xavier, Maiya, Naveigh, and Rudy III; great grandchildren: Mila, Aubree, and Letty. He is also survived by siblings: Cal Leith Jr., Audrey (Francis) Haas, Sherry Leith, Greg Leith, and Glen Leith. He is preceded in death by his aunt and uncle: Ariella and Jack Leith, and sisters: Yvonne and Julie.
