Thelma Fixsen, age 91 of Redwood Falls formerly of Seaforth area, passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 22 at Redwood Valley Funeral Home in Redwood Falls. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home on Saturday. Interment will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Thelma Fixsen was born April 27, 1927 to Carlos and Rosaline (de Freitas) Ferreira in Georgetown, British Guyana, South America. She met Donald Fixsen while he was in the service and stationed in South America. Donald then returned to the United States and pursued Thelma through letters, until she moved to the U.S. to marry him. On September 20, 1949, Thelma married Donald at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Seaforth. The couple settled on a farm near Wabasso and later a farm near Seaforth before moving into Redwood Falls. Thelma worked at home raising her family. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church at Seaforth and later St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Redwood Falls. She was also a member of the Seaforth American Legion Auxiliary Unit 275. Thelma enjoyed cooking, baking and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Thelma was quite a conversationalist and enjoyed visiting with everyone. She will be remembered for her love and compassion of all animals, especially her cats and dogs.
Thelma is survived by her children: Diana (Donald) Schultz of Alexandria & Mesa, AZ, Linda (Gary) Robinson of Redwood Falls, and Brian (Karen) Fixsen of Olivia; grandchildren: Kim (Richard) MacNamee, Kari (Nathan) Brandt, Krista (Nate) Manor, Jennifer (Jesse) Keehl, Jamie (Nathan) Peterson, Michael Fixsen, Matthew Fixsen, and Mary Fixsen (and their mother Cindy Fixsen); 13 great grandchildren: Lauren, Hanna, Hailey, Reagan, Taylor, Luken, Addison, Brady, Aubree, Ethen, Carter, Andrew, and Owen; brother: Kenneth Ferreira of Guyana; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant son Michael, granddaughter Melissa, four sisters, and three brothers.
