Alvera O. Colvin age 95 of Redwood Falls, formerly of Hopkins, died Saturday, April 27, 2013, her 95th birthday, at Garnette Gardens in Redwood Falls.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 2, at Redwood Valley Funeral Home.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association, the Community Emergency Service of Minneapolis, or to the Luv-A-Chin dog rescue. Alvera Olive Colvin was born April 27, 1918 in Franklin, Minnesota to Arthur Reuben and Olga (Lund) Larson. Alvera grew up in Franklin and moved to Minneapolis after high school, trained at Eitel Hospital School of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse. She met and married Dean Colvin in 1940. In 1950, they moved to Hopkins where they built their home and lived for over 50 years. Alvera was always interested in sports and was an avid tennis player while in high school, later she became an excellent bowler but she found her true love with golf. Alvera was an extraordinary mother and friend. She lived a long and happy life and will be greatly missed by those who love her. Thank you to the Garnette Gardens Memory Care team and Lacey Bruns who took excellent care of her for the past year and a half.
Alvera is survived by her daughter Joanne Colvin of Redwood Falls (formerly of Hopkins); sister Jean (Roald) Haugan, also of Redwood Falls; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Olga, sister Lois Stoner, husband Dean E. Colvin, beloved daughter Gail Colvin, brother Silas Larson, and nephew Paul Larson.
