Wendell L. AndersenWendell L. Andersen age 64 of Wabasso passed away on Monday, May 10, 2010 at the Springfield Medical Center after a battle with cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Wabasso.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday with a rosary service at 6:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. ALL AT THE CHURCH. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Friday. Interment is in St. Anne’s Cemetery. Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Wendell was born October 9, 1945 to Wendell M. and Virginia (Morris) Andersen. He graduated from Chatfield High School in 1963. Wendell attended college before enlisting in the US Navy in 1966 and served on a ship in the Atlantic during the Vietnam War. Wendell was honorably discharged in 1970. He returned to school at Mankato State University where he received his teaching degree. Wendell was united in marriage to Susan Vrieze on December 18, 1971 in Eyota, Minnesota. After his schooling he taught in Bertha-Hewitt for 2 years. Wendell moved to the Wabasso area in 1975 to farm. Later he began working at Jonti-Craft in 1994 where he continued working until he passed away. Wendell was diagnosed with cancer in January. He was a member of the Wabasso Lions, Victor Hirsch American Legion Post 263 in Wabasso, and the Redwood Valley Saddle Club. Wendell was an active member of St. Anne’s serving as lector, song leader and church choir director for 30 years. Wendell enjoyed darts, golfing, bowling, riding horses and camping. He loved spending time with his family especially his children and grandchildren, and visiting with friends. Wendell also enjoyed spending time outdoors, gardening, working on the lawn, hunting and fishing.
Wendell is survived by his wife Sue Andersen of 38 years; children: Kristine Andersen of Wabasso, Laura (Mark) DeBeer of Russell, and Scott Andersen (Crystal Hoffman) of Clara City; grandchildren: Cole, Wyatt, Jade, Logan and Blaine; brothers and sisters: Wayne (Rachel) Andersen, Barb (Charlie) Thompson, twin sister Wanda (Wallace) Berry and Bonnie (Ron) Johnson; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and nephew Jacob Thompson.
