Lillian Baarstad
Lillian May Baarstad age 94 of St. Cloud, formerly of Westbrook, passed away suddenly Monday, March 28 at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook.
Visitation is one hour prior to services at the church. Interment is in Westbrook Cemetery at a later date. Stephens Funeral Service – Westbrook Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Lillian May Baarstad was born November 19, 1916 in Westbrook to John and Lillian (Bevier) Anderson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. Lillian’s mother passed away when she was 9 days old, and she was raised by her uncle and aunt Albert and Elsie Anderson of Westbrook. Lillian graduated from Westbrook High School in 1933. After her schooling she worked at the Westbrook Sentinel newspaper office. On June 4, 1941 she was united in marriage to Chester Baarstad at Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook. They lived in Westbrook until 1956 when the family moved to Windom. Lillian worked at the Windom Elevator as a bookkeeper for 25 years. They then returned to Westbrook where she worked at the Westbrook Elevator. Lillian was an accomplished self-taught pianist. She played for the men’s and women’s chorus, as well as singing in the chorus. She moved to St. Cloud in September 2010 to be closer to her daughter. Lillian was a Girl Scout leader, she was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church where was active as treasurer, in the Ladies Aid and Bible studies. She was also very active in politics. Lillian enjoyed traveling, especially in her motor home, camping, baking, and going to high school basketball and hockey games.
Lillian is survived by her daughters: Sylvia Disher of Owatonna and Judy (Paul) Oster of St. Cloud; grandchildren: Tim (Anissa) Disher of Owatonna, Jennifer (Todd) Jensen of Blooming Prairie, Stephanie (Jordan) Lokensgard of Tennessee, Melissa (fiancé Mark Beemer) Oster of Fridley, and Tony Oster of St. Cloud; great grandchildren: Brianna, Taylor, Ryder, McKenzie, River, Brandon, Samantha, Riley, and Chet; siblings: Milford (Lou) Anderson of Westbrook and Myrna (Ken) Peterson of Illinois; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Chester, sisters: Flora Tenley and Gladys Anderson, brothers: Archie, Gerald, Milton, and Lowrey Anderson; and aunt and uncle Elsie and Albert Anderson.
