Cecil G. Markgraf age 100 of Granite Falls formerly of Wood Lake, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Granite Health Care Center in Granite Falls. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at St. John’s Lutheran in Wood Lake. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Thursday. Interment is in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Cecil Markgraf was born November 20, 1916 to Tabias and Ella (Larson) Loland in Cottonwood, Minnesota. She was baptized on November 26, 1916 and confirmed on June 7, 1931 at Silo Lutheran Church in Cottonwood. Cecil attended public school in Cottonwood. On July 6, 1932 Cecil married Marvin Markgraf and they celebrated 68 years of marriage together. From this union four children were born. The couple lived north of Wood Lake where they farmed. Cecil later worked in the Wood Lake public school and then as a nurses aid in the Granite Falls Manor for 22 years. She was musically talented a self-taught piano and organ player and also sang solos for various occasions when she was younger. Cecil loved knitting, sewing and any type of craft work. She was an avid reader, gardener and wonderful cook and baker. Cecil was a loving wife, mom and grandma.
Cecil is survived by daughter Phyllis Teichert of Clara City; son Lennis Markgraf of Pelican Rapids; son-in-law Donald Naaktgeboren of St. Louis Park; 15 grandchildren; 57 great grandchildren; 13 great great grandchildren and 1 great great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin, her parents, son Ronald Markgraf, daughter Marlys Naaktgeboren, daughter-in-law’s: Sharon (Romo) Markgraf and Connie (Potter) Markgraf, son-in-law Marvin Teichert, grandson Scott Markgraf, her two sisters and her four brothers.
