William “Bill” Christensen
William “Bill” Christensen, age 84 of Redwood Falls passed away Tuesday March 15, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in St. Paul.
Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 19 at First United Methodist Church in Redwood Falls.
Visitation will be 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Redwood Valley Funeral Home, and will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Saturday. Interment is in Crestlawn Gardens, rural Redwood Falls. Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Bill Christensen was born April 15, 1926 in Redwood Falls Township, Minnesota to Nels and Emma (Johnson) Christensen. He graduated from Wabasso High School. Bill enlisted in the US Army April 26, 1945 and was honorably discharged December 1, 1946. On November 15, 1947 he was united in marriage to Elaine Sickman. They farmed first near Wabasso, then for many years on the Gilfillan farm. In 1979 they moved to Redwood Falls where Bill worked as a rural mail carrier for several years. He was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church in Redwood Falls where he served as Treasurer for several terms. Bill and Elaine enjoyed square dancing, loved to travel, and took numerous trips. Bill enjoyed woodcarving, doing yard work and taking care of his lawn.
Bill is survived by his wife Elaine of Redwood Falls; son Dean (Joyce Francis) Christensen of Northfield, MN and their children Emma Christensen (Scott Heines) and Andrew (Darci) Christensen; daughter Pam (Gary) Savage of Shakopee, MN and their children Jana (Kelly) Reger and Jennifer (Sean) Daly. He is also survived by his great grandchildren Emma & Grace Reger, and Conor & Maggie Daly; brother Donald (Lucille) Christensen; sisters Alice (George) Dresow and Lois Pierson; and sister-in-law Arlene Christensen. He is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Julius (Helen) Christensen, Norman (Hilda) Christensen, Ed (Thelma) Christensen, and Jens Christensen. |
