Glenford Columbus
Glenford Thomas “Dodo” Columbus age 63 of the Lower Sioux entered the spirit world peacefully Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at his home.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday at the Lower Sioux Community Center.
Visitation begins at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Lower Sioux Community Center and will continue until time of services on Monday. Interment is in St. Cornelia’s Episcopal Cemetery. Casketbearers are Bob Larsen, Curt Larsen, John Kolbe, Dean Pendleton, Wilfred Mazawasicuna, and Pat Blue. Honorary casketbearers are Janet Fennern, Tony Dow, Ray Geshick, Jody Goodthunder, Steve Resemius, Mike Zimmer, Bobby Red Wing, Steve Flores, Dick “Red” Gallery, Leonard Eller, Rick Gruendemann, Terry Dallenbach, Mike Dallenbach, Ricky Crooks, and all members of the Silver Wings Band. Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Glenford Thomas “Dodo” (meaning Eagle Warrior) Columbus was born July 11, 1949 in Pipestone, MN to Thomas and Iola Jean (Mireau) Columbus. He attended Morton Public School and welding school in Kansas City, MO. Dodo was a very good artist. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing pool, and having cookouts grilling steaks. He also enjoyed music, art, his German Shepherd dogs, and sports, especially watching boxing and the Minnesota Vikings. Dodo loved spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren.
Glenford is survived by his daughters: Malinda Fennern, Christina Fennern, Angela Schaffer, and Amber Schaffer; brothers and sisters: Tim Columbus of La Mesa, CA, Rolland (Fawn) of Redwood Falls, Lillian Wilson of the Lower Sioux, LaVonne (Dan) Swenson of the Lower Sioux, Sandra (Ray) Geshick of the Lower Sioux, Marilyn His Day of the Lower Sioux, Vincent Columbus of the Lower Sioux, Dan Grey Eagle of the Lower Sioux, Chris Columbus of Redwood Falls, and Melissa (Chris) Chee of the Lower Sioux; uncle Joe Mireau of Prairie Island; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Violet; brothers Alvin, Delano, Clyde, Leon, and Kevin; sister Ramona; and nieces and nephews.
