Don Dewain Westphal, age 76 of Amiret, passed away Thursday, September 27, 2018 at Our House Hospice of Murray County in Slayton. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 2 at Tracy Lutheran Church in Tracy. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 p.m. Monday at Tracy Area Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be in the Tracy City Cemetery. Stephens Funeral Service – Tracy Area Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Don Dewain Westphal was born October 6, 1941 to Herman and Pearl (Billgren) Westphal in Marshall, Minnesota. He graduated from Tracy High School in 1960 and later started farming. On August 31, 1968, Don married Betty Swan at Sillerud Lutheran Church. The couple lived in Amiret and moved out to the farm in 1972. Don retired from farming in 2007 and he also lost the love of his life Betty on December 30, 2007. He lived on the farm until he became a resident of Colonial Manor in Balaton after a stroke in November of 2015. On February 22, 2018, Don moved to Our House Hospice of Murray County in Slayton. He enjoyed Rollie Bolle, driving around the country side and breakfast out at Red Rooster. Don loved visiting with family, neighbors and friends.
Don is survived by his children: Lynn (Rick) Miller of rural Garvin, Todd Westphal and Scott Westphal both of Brookings, SD; grandchildren: Ryan & Jessica Miller of rural Garvin; brother Wes Westphal of Burtrum; sister-in-law Phyllis (Gary) Hansen of Rochester; nieces and nephew: Cindy Westphal, Loren (Nancy) Westphal both of Lynd, and Heather (Kevin) VanKoeverden of Rochester. He is preceded in death by his parents Herman and Pearl Westphal, wife Betty, and parents-in-law Hilding and Blanche Swan.
