Dorothy Mitchell Roush, the daughter of Rev. D. Diamond and Bertha M. Dorothy married Stanley E. Stassen in 1950, and they lived on the family farm in New Avon Township.  Together they had three children.  Following Stanley’s death in 1967, she continued living on the farm.  In 1976 she married W. Floyd Roush.  He passed away in 1998.  In 2006, she moved to Garnette Gardens in Redwood Falls.  She subsequently lived at Golden Living Center in Wabasso, Boulder Creek Assisted Living in Marshall, and in August 2016, moved to the Prairie Home Hospice House in Marshall.  Dorothy was a member of the New Avon United Methodist Church south of Redwood Falls, where she served as the choir director and assistant organist and was a member of the Administrative Council and United Methodist Women.  She also gave piano and organ lessons to area residents.

Dorothy is survived by her three daughters: Carol (Enrique) August of Belize, Central America, Marilyn (Mark) Hacker of Marshall, and Marcia (Jeff) Todd of Summerville, SC; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, brother Rev. Donald Mitchell, and special friend Irvin Quesenberry.  Dorothy will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

  1. So sorry for your loss Marilyn. Your mother had a fascinating, full life. I see where your love of music comes from.
I am sure the love and quality time you two shared these past few years, was equally cherished.
You and Mark and your family are in our prayers.

Please know the McIntyre girls are all thinking of you today…and will be in the coming days ahead. Your Mom was a remarkable woman by any standards…to say ‘a life lived well’ doesn’t say enough. You three girls (and your children) are her beautiful legacy. Her memory will not be lost. Wishing today we could keep ‘them’ with us forever, but happy for her new Beginning with the Lord. Love and hugs to you all from the McGirls.

  5. Jean and I just returned today from two months in Georgia and found your phone message. Your mother was a

great lady and Christian. She was a big help to me both while I served New Avon as a young pastor and later as

your family visited us in Vernon Center and Springfield. She was organist at our daughter Carols wedding in

Fairmont. God bless you and yours. Marlowe and Jean Potter
