Gary Ahrens age 69 of Beaver Falls Township passed away on Tuesday, December 25, 2018 at Seasons Hospice House in Redwood Falls after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Cornerstone Christian Church in Redwood Falls. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Interment is in Beaver Falls Cemetery. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers. Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Gary was born July 28, 1949 in Redwood Falls to Maurice & Lois (Eckhart) Ahrens. He graduated from Morton High School in 1967 and attended Mankato State University until his father passed away. He then returned home to take over the family farm. On November 29, 1969, Gary was married to Linda Kodet. Together they had two sons Craig and Brian. They were later divorced. Gary also worked in the grain bin and irrigation business in Redwood Falls. In 1979-1980, he was recognized for the top grain bin sale in the United States. Gary continued farming his whole life, but in his “semi-retirement” he started his own business, Ahrens Bin Sales. He shipped grain bins nationally. Gary was a lifetime member of Cornerstone Christian Church where he served on the church board and as head usher. He also served on the Beaver Falls Township board. Gary enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing and playing cards.
Gary is survived by his son Craig Ahrens of Redwood Falls; grandchildren: Dion Sgro, Frankee Ahrens & Harlee Ahrens; siblings: Joann Hopkins of St. Cloud, Clel Ahrens of St. Cloud, Mary (Bob) Wetmore of Redwood Falls & Susie (Jim) Rima of Redwood Falls; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and son Brian.
