Harold “Harry” A. Frericks age 90 of Wabasso passed away Thursday, November 17, 2016 at the Redwood Area Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 21 at St. Anne Catholic Church in Wabasso. Visitation is 4:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday, November 20 AT THE CHURCH with a 7:00 p.m. parish prayer service, followed by the Rosary. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Monday. Burial is in St. Anne’s Catholic Cemetery. Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home in Redwood Falls is assisting the family with arrangements.
Harold “Harry” Ambrose Frericks was born May 30, 1926 in Arcadia, Iowa to John and Elizabeth (Leiting) Frericks, and baptized that same day. At the age of nine months, Harry moved with his family to Wabasso, Minnesota. He was confirmed in the Catholic faith at St. Anne Catholic Church in Wabasso, and attended St. Anne Catholic School. On December 1, 1944, Harry enlisted in the US Navy and served on the USS Belle Isle during WWII. He was honorably discharged on July 20, 1946. Harry was united in marriage to Constance Edmondson on August 24, 1954 at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Springfield. Following his years in the Navy, Harry returned to Wabasso and worked for Franta Implement. He then went on to own and operate several businesses and drove school bus for 27 years, retiring at the age of 70. Harry thoroughly enjoyed interacting with all the kids on the bus through the years, and he especially loved driving for extracurricular activities. He was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and the Wabasso American Legion. He enjoyed fishing and boating, playing cards, Pinochle, poker, and shaking dice. He loved listening to Polka music, spending time with his family, telling stories, and teasing the grandchildren.
Harry is survived by his wife, Connie of Wabasso; 11 children: Jean (Mike) Brey of Cohasset, Marlene (Steve) Benson of Windom, Debra (Steve) Lingle of Lamberton, Scott of Wabasso, Kevin (Dawn) of Grove City, Joyce (Greg) Wickett of Farmington, Mary (Brad) Senst of Lamberton, Rita (Brian) Thode of Jasper, Patrick of Grove City, Dawn (Rick) Thissen of Eagan, Jesse of Whitesboro, TX; daughter-in-law Debbie Frericks of Wabasso; 34 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; brother Marvin (Eunice) Frericks of New Ulm; brother-in-law Tony Sprenger of New Ulm; sister-in-law Shirley Frericks of Rochester; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, son Jerry, infant twin sons Peter and Paul, brothers Norbert, Cletus, and Donald, and sisters RoseAnn Sprenger and Marina Brau.
