Darrell Horkey
Darrell Horkey, age 69, of Westbrook passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 2 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Westbrook. Visitation is Sunday 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Westbrook Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Interment is in Westbrook Cemetery. Stephens Funeral Service – Westbrook Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Darrell Allen Horkey was born October 3, 1941 to Vladie C. and Agnes (Kopeste) Horkey. He was baptized and confirmed in Grace Lutheran Church and later in the Catholic faith when he married Mary Fletcher in Holy Spirit Church on June 24, 1961 in Fargo, ND. To this union 3 children were born. Darrell farmed his entire married life on the farm where he was born. He lived his entire 69 years on this farm except for a short time when he lived in Fargo, ND. Darrell was an active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and the Lion’s Club. He served on the Rosehill Township Board for many years. Darrell enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, hunting, and fishing. For the last several years he and Mary spent their winters in Mission, TX, becoming “snowbirds” and gaining a whole new family.
Darrell is survived by his wife Mary; children: Brenda (Joe) Clausen, Barb (Roger) Wahl, and Curtis (Kathy) Horkey; 10 grandchildren: Paul, Christine, and Tony Clausen, Matt Phair, Megan, Michelle, and Marshall Horkey, Stephanie, Aleigha, and Kyle Wahl; brothers Harold of Windom and Vernal “Bud” of Westbrook; sisters Edythe Morphew of Windom, Marge Johnson of Sandpoint, ID, and Marion Nelson of Fairfield Bay, AK. He is preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
