Jeffrey “Porky” Roger Goodmund, Sr. was born June 23, 1956 in Tyler, Minnesota to Roger and Lorna (Winsel) Goodmund. He was baptized and confirmed at English Lutheran Church in Marshall. Jeff attended school in Russell, and graduated from Russell High School in 1975. In school, he played 9 man football, threw shot put, and ran track. Jeff was very active in 4-H where he showed dairy cows and sheep. He worked on the family farm milking cows, doing all farming duties, and helped with the sheep shearing business. In 1995, Jeff opened J & J Welding, and worked side by side with his daughter ever since. He enjoyed going to auctions, collecting and restoring CASE tractors, farming, and gardening. He loved visiting with friends and patronizing the Balaton Liquor Store. Jeff was a man who would tell it like it was, and if he was thinking it, he wasn’t afraid to say it. He lived a simple life, and he thought the world of his daughter and grandchildren who were his world. Jeff made daily morning phone calls to his grandchildren on the way to school, just to tell them he loved them. Until we meet again, “Happy Hanukkah!”

Jeff is survived by his daughter, Rachel (Rick) LeClaire of Russell; grandchildren: MaLinda, MaKala, Parker, and Ethan; many friends; aunts & uncles; cousins; and his special 4-legged friend, Fred. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Lorna.

Jeff / Porky was a true friend to me and my family. I met when I was a Red Baron Airshow Pilot and the Director of the Squadron. Many of my free nights were spent socializing and bantering over many things with him and family members from the Russell Community. During my time in Russell whenever something would break or I needed help on our hobby farm the Buchert’s and Jeff were always at my door. I will NEVER forget the kind soul that truly was Jeff. When the Red Baron Squadron was being retired from service Jeff drove straight to my house when he heard about the shocking news and asked me if I would need anything at all, money, help, etc. He was a true friend who loved his family and friends. I will miss his laugh and smile. I will also miss hearing “That’s the way we do it in Southwest Minnesota!”
Rest in peace Jeff. You deserve it. Bye my friend!

  3. I have so many good memories of our neighbor boy, Jeff, and the kindnesses of his family toward ours. To his children, his sister, Julie, and his friends, I say I am so sorry for your loss. Melva Henspeter
