John McClellan age 95 of rural Dovray passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at Sanford Westbrook Hospital. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 16 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Dovray. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Burial will be Pleasant View Cemetery at a later date. Stephens Funeral Service – Westbrook Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
John McClellan was born February 15, 1918 to Henry and Emma (Walters) McClellan. His early childhood was spent on a farm in Traverse County. In 1920 John’s parents moved to Wheaton, Minnesota where his father was a rural mail carrier. John graduated from Wheaton High School in 1936 and from Gustavus Adolphus in 1940 with a B.A. in business administration. On August 24, 1940 he was united in marriage to Lucille Cohrs. They began farming in the spring of 1941 on her family farm, ¾ mile east of Dovray. John and Lucille had two sons: Glen and Gene. John retired in 1981, but continued to live at his farm home until his death. After his retirement, John’s favorite hobby was trail riding.
John is survived by his sons and their spouses: Glen and Louise of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, and Gene and Julie of Westbrook; grandchildren: Dan, David, and Shannon; great grandchildren Wyatt and Isabella; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Lucille, and siblings: Clare, Kitty, Margie, and Leila.
