Leona Donner, age 89 of Redwood Falls, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Wood Dale Nursing Home in Redwood Falls. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lucan. Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. Friday until the time of services. Burial is in Johnsonville Township Cemetery. Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home in Redwood Falls is assisting the family with arrangements.
Leona Mae Donner was born December 15, 1926 in Johnsonville Township, Redwood County, Minnesota to Fred and Grace (McFarland) Hult. She was baptized at Walnut Grove and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lucan. Leona attended various rural schools and graduated from Walnut Grove High School. She graduated from Teachers Normal in Lamberton. Leona taught school and substituted in various rural schools. On November 12, 1946 she married Kenneth Donner. Leona was employed by Milroy Public School for 22 years. She was a member of Lucan Trinity Lutheran Church and WELCA, where she served for several offices and was a Sunday School teacher and Luther League advisor. Leona was devoted to reading her Bible every day. She was famous for her chocolate chip cookies and baked them for every occasion or gathering.
Leona is survived by her daughters Linda (Dennis) Gilb of New Ulm, Lynette (Dale) Brau of Lucan, and Paulette (Kevin) Kosel of Redwood Falls; 8 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; and sister Lori Blankenhagen of Renville. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, and an infant son.
