Luella Nordsiden age 90 of Winner, South Dakota, formerly of Westbrook, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2016 at the Winner Regional Healthcare Center. Memorial services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 27 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Burial is in the Walnut Grove Cemetery. Luella Eunice Check was born to Fred and Alvida Check on October 21, 1925 in Walnut Grove, Minnesota. Luella graduated from Walnut Grove Public High School and worked at West Publishing in St. Paul, Minnesota. She moved to San Diego, California during the Second World War. Luella worked at Consolidated Aircraft and was part of the American women who worked in shipyards and factories during WWII, known as “Rosie the Riveter”. On October 21, 1946 Luella was united in marriage to Floyd Nordsiden. She and Floyd farmed in Minnesota until retirement and settled in Westbrook. Her passion was sewing, embroidering, stitching, and cooking; which she shared freely with others. Luella cherished time spent with family.
Luella is survived by sons: Allen of Sioux City, IA., Kenneth (Carol) of St. Cloud, Steven (Karen) of Le Sueur, Larry (Kim) of Winner, SD; 15 grandchildren; great grandchildren; sister-in-law Eunice Anderson of Lamberton; and brother Donald Check of Minnetonka. She was preceded in death by her husband Floyd on May 12, 2014.
Beautiful woman. Strong and smart. She always would show up, send a card or letter right when you needed it! And made the best deserts ever. Will miss you grandma.
