Helen McQueen…100 of Tyler (formerly of Lake Benton) passed away October 26, 2010 at the Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Tyler.
Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday October 30 at the United Methodist Church in Lake Benton.
Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. and continue until the time of the service.
Private family burial is in Memorial Hill Cemetery in Lake Benton. The Tyler Area funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Helen McQueen was born July 15, 1910 in Wessington, South Dakota to William and Pearl (Pogue) Lahey. She was baptized and confirmed and attended School Districts #27 and #38 in Pipestone County. Helen was united in marriage to Aldie McQueen on April 15, 1940 in Marshall. They lived in Lake Benton. She worked at several businesses in Lake Benton including the restaurant, the clothing store for 23 years and the drug store for 10 years. Helen was a member of the church ladies aid, enjoyed playing bridge, loved to travel, and she enjoyed knitting and made afghans for many family members.
Helen is survived by her daughter-in-law Pat Oldaker; grandchildren: Mary Brent of St. Paul, Chris Nelson of Sioux Falls; great grandchildren: Ashley Nelson, Kore Brent, Shongah Brent, Matthew Nelson and Lucas Nelson; nephews: Chad and Justin Nelson, Greg and Matthew Fehl; nieces: LouRene (Jeff) Nelson and Billie (Steven) Fehl. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Aldie and son Orville Nelson, and brother Louis Lahey.
