Galyn G. Minkel Sr.
Galyn G. Minkel Sr. age 72 of Morton, formerly of Olivia, passed away Friday, November 4, 2011 at his home while surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Lower Sioux Community Rec Center.
Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. Monday, and will continue until the time of the service at the Rec Center. Interment is in the St. Cornelia’s Episcopal Cemetery. Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Galyn was born August 19, 1939 in Olivia, MN to Arthur & Helen (Buttenhoff) Minkel. He attended school in Olivia before enlisting in the US Air Force on December 19, 1956. He worked as an Aircraft Mechanic serving in Europe; London and Germany. On March 27, 1958, He received his Honorable Discharge and returned to the Olivia area. Galyn was united in marriage to Ruby Leith on June 24, 1959. Together the couple lived in Minneapolis where Galyn worked in construction until 1969 when they returned to Olivia. Galyn worked with his brothers to form Minkel Construction, Inc. He moved to Morton in 1991 where he has resided since. Galyn also worked in property management, and for the last 20 years, has been employed with Jackpot Junction. Galyn enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, camping, and travelling on Motorcycle trips.
Galyn is survived by his wife Ruby of 52 years; children: Cheryl (Sam) Johnson of Redwood Falls, Carrie (Larry) Johnson of Morton, Galyn Jr. (Lorri) Minkel of Redwood Falls & Darin (Jeanine) Minkel of Redwood Falls; 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren with a 14th great granddaughter on the way; brothers: Marlyn (Nellie) Minkel of Olivia, Lelyn (Kathy) Minkel of New London, and Rolyn (Phyllis) Minkel of Olivia; and many other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death are his parents and brothers Arlyn, Darwyn, and Verlyn. |
