Dorene M. Nielsen

Dorene M. Nielsen, age 80 of Ruthton passed away Friday, January 8, 2010 at the Tyler Hospital in Tyler.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Peace Lutheran Church in Ruthton.

Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday at the Tyler Area Funeral Home with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to the services at the church on Tuesday.  Interment is in the Ruthton Cemetery.  The Tyler Area Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Dorene M. Nielsen was born December 19, 1929 in Boyden, Iowa, to William and Sophia (Woelber) Kruse.  She grew up on the farm near Tyler, and attended school at Star School, District 7.  She later moved to California and worked at Douglas Aircraft until she was united in marriage to Edwin “Buddy” Nielsen.  In 1976, Dorene and Buddy moved back to the Ruthton area where she raised her two sons, Jeff and Paul.  Dorene was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.  She enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren, drinking coffee, and visiting with family and friends.

Dorene is survived by her son Paul (Sallie Ann) Nielsen of Ruthton; grandchildren Gavin and Natalie Nielsen; siblings: Orlo Kruse of Canby, MN, Marlene Hartson of Tyler, MN, Anita Vespa of Petaluma, CA, Lucille George of Huntington Beach, CA, and Linda Petersen of Huntington Beach, CA.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Edwin “Buddy,” son Jeffery, and siblings Anna Mae Christensen and Willis Kruse.
