Alice Mary (McCorkell) (Bernardy) Zihlke, age 83 of Redwood Falls, formerly of Springfield, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at Carris Health Redwood Hospital in Redwood Falls. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 13, 2020 at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Redwood Falls. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. and will continue until the time of service Friday at church. In honor of Alice’s favorite color, the family requests guests wear a touch of purple to the service. The funeral service will be livestreamed on the church’s website at www.mystcatherines.org. Interment will be in the New Avon Township Cemetery. Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions, GUESTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO WEAR A MASK and practice social distancing guidelines. A 50% indoor occupancy restriction will be maintained. Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Alice Mary (McCorkell) (Bernardy) Zihlke was born February 2, 1937 to Malcolm and Mildred (Jeckell) McCorkell in New Avon Township, Redwood County, Minnesota. In her younger years she attended country school and later graduated from Wabasso High School. Alice was united in marriage to Donald Bernardy and they were blessed with four children. On June 20, 1987, Alice married Reinhold Zihlke. Alice worked at Redwood Hospital in the nursery, and Divine Providence nursing home. She later provided daycare to families in the area. She then worked at Zytec and Home Health Care. Alice was a very dedicated mother and awesome grandmother. She loved to stay active with her TOPS exercise group, traveling and participating in community events. Alice enjoyed cooking, canning, word search puzzles and watching game shows. She was an individual who lit up a room. Her laughter was recognizable and contagious. She brought humor and joy to even the toughest situations. Alice loved spending time with dear friends and family, especially her children and grandchildren.
Alice is survived by her children: Michael (Nancy) Bernardy of Belview, Christine (Be) Truong of Buffalo, Brian (Michele) Bernardy of Redwood Falls, and Steve Bernardy of Morgan; step-children: Lois (Gary) Mattson, Barbara (Mike) Marz, John (Patti) Zihlke and Mike (Lisa) Zihlke; 25 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; siblings: Sidney (Charlene) Smith, Carol Eder, Nora Jean (Michael) Seifert, and Karen (Roger) Stephens; good friends: Elaine, Lynn, Macy, and Bill; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and husbands, Don & Reinhold.
