Robert “Bob” Howard Bunting was born to Howard and Mildred (Lidtke) Bunting at home in Rose Hill Township on February 16, 1939. He was baptized and confirmed at Emmanuel Lutheran Rose Hill Church. After attending District 48 Country School, Bob attended and graduated from Westbrook High School. He served in the U.S. Army and Reserves from 1956 – 1962. On September 26, 1959, Bob married the love of his life, Theodora “Teddy” Caswell. He and Teddy made their home on Nightmare Stables Farm southeast of Westbrook, where they raised four sons. Farming was Bob’s life, where he raised horses, sheep, cattle, pigs, chickens, guinea fowl, buffalo, rabbits and was known for his beloved peacocks. He always wore cowboy boots and a bill cap. Bob was involved in 4-H, horse racing, the Storden Saddle Tramps, and a member of the Storden American Legion. When he was not at the farm, you found him enjoying Rough Country horse racing and Thoroughbred racing at Canterbury Park. Teddy and Bob enjoyed spending winters in Ocala, Florida for 26 years, and he continued going until 2022. They made new friends, went to flea markets, and participated in many activities in the area. Bob was proud to work at the Ocala Stud Farm as a broodmare manager. He made beautiful memories of taking his grandchildren on fishing trips, always returning with great stories and belly aches of laughter. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandpa, and friend who brought great joy to everyone he met.
Bob is survived by his sons: Brett, Tony (Deb), Kent, and Dean; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law Dianne Bunting and Luann (Denny) Vanderploeg. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Teddy, brother Voyne, and sister Leah (Jim) Tammeus.
Blessed be the memory of Bob Bunting.
