Bonnie Mae Lund, age 95 of Franklin, passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at River Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center in Redwood Falls. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Fairfax United Methodist Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church on Saturday. Interment will be in the Franklin Cemetery. Stephens Funeral Service -Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Bonnie Lund was born October 1, 1928 to Jesse and Mildred (Larsen) Giem in St. Paul, Minnesota. She attended grade school in Morgan and graduated from Elgin High School in 1946. Bonnie later moved to Franklin to work at Skip’s Café, where she met George Lund. On April 23, 1949, Bonnie married George at the Morgan Presbyterian Church. The couple resided in Elgin for a year and then moved to Redwood Falls. In 1966, they moved to Franklin, where Bonnie worked in the kitchen at school and at a restaurant for a period of time. She helped care for children in the community and her children and grandchildren. Bonnie resided at home in Franklin until she entered the nursing home in Redwood Falls. She was a longtime member of the Methodist church. She loved playing cards especially “500” and was a member of the card club in Redwood Falls for over 50 years. You could often find her quilting, sewing, seamstress, and braiding rugs. She enjoyed baking and cooking in her free time. Bonnie enjoyed the outdoors and loved camping, fishing, gardening and canning. She loved spending time with her close friends the Matzdorf’s. Bonnie’s family would like to extend a thank you to the staff at River Valley Health & Rehabilitation Center and CentraCare Hospice.
Bonnie is survived by her children: Jeff (Connie) of Franklin, Julie (Kevin) Thompson of Sioux Rapids, IA, Greg (Sandy) of Franklin, and Shelly (fiancé Jamie Stark) Weinzetl of Redwood Falls; grandchildren: Lisa, Dody, Darrick, Dan, Jesse, Tabitha, Peter, Josie, Andy, Lindsey, Jake, Josh and Brianna; sons-in-law: Dennis Dickmeyer and Steve Menk; 24 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband George, daughters Kathy Dickmeyer and Becky Menk, son-in-law Mark Weinzetl, grandson Michael Dickmeyer, great grandsons Drew& Journee and sister-in-law Lorraine Hylland.
