Cletus J. Trost, age 93 of Wabasso passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at Serenity Suites in Wabasso. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 6, 2024 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Wabasso. Visitation will be 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. prior to services at the church on Friday. Private burial will be at St. Anne’s Catholic Cemetery. Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Cletus Joseph Trost was born June 24, 1931 to Albert and Minnie (Hammerschmidt) Trost in Sheridan Township. He was baptized at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Seaforth. The Sacraments of First Communion and Confirmation were made at St. Anne’s Catholic Church. Cletus received his education at St. Anne’s Catholic School. On November 17, 1954, Cletus was united in marriage to Fern Nott at St. Anne’s Catholic Church. He played in an old time polka band for a number of years. He lived in Wabasso his entire life. Cletus worked at Zieske Lumber Company for several years before he began his own construction company. After his retirement from construction, he began farming with his son and helped until his second retirement at age 81. Cletus was a longtime member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church and a charter member of the Wabasso Lions Club. Cletus enjoyed working and spending time with his family.
Cletus is survived by his wife of almost 70 years Fern; children: Randy (Mary Pat) of Geneva, IL, Curtis (Carla) of Wabasso, Nancy Schmiesing of Milroy and Michael (Jody Werner) of Wabasso; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; siblings: Bernus Trebesch, Ralph Trost and Diane (Everett) Knott; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Marilyn Rothmeier.
