Cody Lee Sams, age 36 of Redwood Falls, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 2, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 7, 2022 at Bethany Lutheran Church, Gilfillan. Visitation will be 2 hours prior to the service at the church.  Interment is in the church cemetery. Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. There has been a memorial fund set up at Minnwest Bank. Anyone who would like to contribute to the account should make payments to Brian or Darla Sams with a note “for Cody Sams”.

Cody Lee Sams was born January 27, 1986 to Brian and Darla (Gegner) Sams in Redwood Falls, MN. He attended school at Redwood Valley, graduating in 2004. Cody lived a hard life, and life was hard on him. A few steps off the path led to some unfortunate accidents that left him with almost unbearable pain. Nothing seemed to help, and the pain wouldn’t go away. Everyday tasks were difficult at best, but nothing stopped him from loving his family. His large stature was dwarfed by the size of his heart, and his children could feel it whenever he was around. He loved watching movies and tv with his children and was often found laughing and joking with them.  Although he didn’t have enough time with his kids, there will be plenty of memories for them to carry on.

Some of Cody’s favorite things were fishing, fishing, and fishing! But he always found time to play Fortnite with Drake, flip pancakes for Tegan, and simply talk with Adriana, his confidant and friend. He was proud of his kids, and he loved them with a passion.

Cody is survived by his children: Adriana Kates, Drake Sams-Kates, and Tegan Sams; his parents: Brian and Darla; his grandmother Gloria Gegner of Morgan; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his grandparents: Leland Sams, Marilyn Sams, and Frederick Gegner; his uncles: Kevin Gegner, David Sams and Randy Gegner; and his aunt Bonnie Welter.
