Dan GreyEagle “Wambdi Duta” meaning Red Eagle, age 66 of Lower Sioux Community, passed away Thursday, December 1, 2022 at St. Cloud Hospital. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at the Lower Sioux Community Center. Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. Monday, December 5 at Lower Sioux Community Center. Visitation will continue until the time of service on Tuesday. Interment will be in the St. Cornelia’s Episcopal Cemetery.
Dan GreyEagle “Wambdi Duta” meaning Red Eagle was born April 18, 1956 to Thomas and Iola (Mireau) Columbus in Redwood Falls, Minnesota. He attended Bishop Whipple School, Morton Public School and Kicking Horse Vocational School in Montana. He received his GED later. Dan’s first daughter Debra was born in 1976. He then married Wanda Blue at St. Cornelia’s Church; to this union two daughters were born, Valerie and Danielle. His daughter Dee was born in 1986 and Lydia in 1988. Dan was later married to Penny Lenoire. He loved working head of security for the Pow wows. Dan was always the first person called when they needed security on the Reservation. He was a well-respected member of the community and his traditional culture was very important to him. Dan enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and spending time outdoors. You could often find him cutting the grass or listening to country music. Dan loved having a good cookout and spending time with his family.
Dan is survived by his fiancé Mary Big Bear; children: Danielle GreyEagle, Dee GreyEagle and Chunte Mountain; grandchildren: Banashi, Matthew, Hapana, Jarrett, Chayton, Tru, Mya, Leah, Wowicala win, Tawihinapa win, Julius, Jazlyn, Odin, Arynias, Styles, Baby Rob, JaLean, and Rose Marie “Jug-Jug”; siblings: Lillian Wilson, LaVonne (Steve) Johnson, Marilyn Hisday, Vince Columbus, Christopher Columbus, Melissa (Chris) Chee; brothers-in-law: Ray Geshick and Ernie Rendon; good friend Jerome Schoen; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, daughters: Debbie, Valerie and Lydia GreyEagle, brothers: Delano, Clyde, Leon, Glenford, Alvin, Kevin, Roland and Tim Columbus, and sisters: Ramona Columbus and Sandra Geshick.
