David Allen Christensen was born August 8, 1960 to Donald and Bernice (Kock) Christensen in Pipestone, MN. He was baptized at the Methodist Church in Lake Benton and confirmed in 1976 at the Methodist Church in Luverne. Growing up in Luverne, Dave worked at JCPenney and Magnolia Steak House until graduating in 1979. He then helped a farmer with fall work and worked for A.R. Wood. Eventually, Dave worked as a dispatcher for Rock County, which piqued his interest in law enforcement, and led him to school in Hibbing where he received his degree in Law Enforcement. On May 7, 1988, Dave married Mary Sikich. This marriage was blessed with two children, Andrew and Rachel. Dave began his career with the Walnut Grove Police Department before starting at the Redwood Falls Police Department where he worked for the rest of his career. When he retired on August 31, 2010, Dave moved to Alexandria to be by the lake, which he loved. David enjoyed hunting, fishing and the Minnesota Vikings and was a collector of coins and law enforcement patches. Dave was a vibrant person who brought joy to those around him with his friendliness and humor. His ability to connect with people and his memorable one-liners made each encounter so enjoyable. He will be deeply missed by his friends and loved ones. Rest easy, “Big Daddy”.
David is lovingly remembered by his mother Bernice; children: Andrew (Abby) Christensen of Willmar and Rachel (Adam) Morrow of Rice; 4 grandchildren: Aiden, Ashton & Ayla Christensen and Ellie Morrow; 2 sisters: Sandra (Terry) Czichotzki of Barnesville and Brenda (Terry) Everson of Fergus Falls; & many great-aunts, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his father Don.
