Dion Trent Roberts, Mato Woakiya Nazin (the bear that helps), age 59 of the Lower Sioux Community, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2024 at his brother’s home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2024 at the Cansayapi Rec Center on the Lower Sioux with final viewing beginning at 9:30 a.m. An all-night wake will be held beginning at 4:00 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2024 at the Cansayapi Rec Center. Interment is in the St. Cornelia’s Episcopal Cemetery on the Lower Sioux. Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. 

Dion Trent Roberts was born July 27, 1964 in Dallas, Texas to George Shady and Lillian (Columbus) Roberts. He attended South High School in the twin cities, and after graduation, he furthered his education in Superior, Wisconsin in pursuit to be a doctor. Dion was married to Susan Howard and they were blessed with 3 children: Katrina, Maria, and Michael. Later, he married Lisa Schweinfurter and they were blessed with Joshua. Dion worked for many years at Jackpot Junction Casino. He loved spending time outdoors; camping, 4wheeling, fishing, traveling, and golfing. He was very athletic and trained in martial arts. Dion had an artistic side and made many beautiful drawings. Above all, he loved spending time with his family.

Dion is survived by his children: Katrina, Maria, Michael, and Joshua Roberts; several grandchildren; mother Lillian Wilson; siblings: Lillian Eileen Whitebird, Timothy (Debra) Roberts, Stacy Lynn Roberts, Caesar Romero, Thomas Wilson, Elena Wilson, Rita Wilson, and Anita Wilson; aunts and uncles: Marilyn HisDay, Vincent Columbus, Christopher Columbus, and Melissa (Chris) Chee; nieces and nephews: Robert Gotchie, Leanne Prescott, Ryan Whitebird, Jeremy Roberts, Nokoma Roberts, Wakinyanna Roberts, Jasmine Roberts, Shaya, Terrence Jaye, Mario, Jonny, and Elianna. He is preceded in death by his father George, brothers Willard Columbus and Donovan Golubowicz, nephew Marcus Roberts, nieces Monique Wilson, Ashley Whitebird and many other relatives.
