Floyd E. Sandgren, age 93 of Redwoood Falls, passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2024 surrounded by family at CentraCare Hospital in St. Cloud. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 6, 2024 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls with a livestream on St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church’s YouTube Page. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church on Friday. Interment will be in the MN State Veterans Cemetery in Redwood Falls. Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Floyd E. Sandgren was born June 1, 1931 to Ernest and Gladys (Hable) Sandgren at home in Martinsburg Township, Renville County, Minnesota. He was baptized July 5, 1931 and confirmed October 21, 1945 at Swedlanda Lutheran Church near Hector. Floyd attended country school and helped with tiling and farming following his schooling. On June 28, 1952, Floyd married the love of his life Martha Fennern at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls. Floyd was drafted into the U.S. Army on July 30, 1952 and served in the Korean War. After his honorable discharge on April 29, 1954, Floyd and Martha moved to Redwood Falls. He worked for Long’s Conoco until he purchased the business and later relocated after purchasing the Perrizo Texaco. This eventually became Sinclair Service Station, which he owned and operated for 40 years. For many years he also drove school bus. Floyd was a lifetime member of the VFW and belonged to the American Legion. He was a dedicated member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he served as a trustee and usher. Floyd enjoyed going fishing and tending to his garden. He had a knack for trying to fix everything. Floyd loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Floyd is survived by his wife Martha of 72 years; sons: Jeff (Mavis), Jim (Karen) both of Redwood Falls and John (Renae) of Olivia; grandchildren: Tyler (Kaylynn), Trevor & Tara Sandgren, Brennen, Devon (Becca Danich), Abi (Jon Sweetman), Cameron & Easton Sandgren, and Logan (Melissa), Jaden (Maleia), Hudson Sandgren, Chevelle (Austin) Macik and Lane & Cole Slagter; great grandchildren: Natalie & Noah Sandgren, J.J. Sweetman, Remi Macik and Baby Sandgren due January 2025; brother: Douglas (Darlene) of Buffalo Lake; sisters-in-law Zerelda Dahms of Redwood Falls and Augusta “Gussie” Fennern of Amery, WI; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers Harold, Bob and Leroy.
