Kathleen “Kay” (Schiller) Schmidt was born September 8, 1949 in Springfield, Minnesota, the twelfth of seventeen children born to Edward and Mildred (Timm) Schiller. Kay graduated from Springfield High School. On May 11, 1968, Kay was united in marriage to Jim Schmidt at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Redwood Falls. Kay provided childcare in her home for 20 years, and worked in the school cafeteria for the last several years. She opened her door to anyone in need and was everyone’s “mom”. Kay instilled the value of hard work into her children and grandchildren. She was a neat and tidy person, and always kept a clean home. Kay enjoyed bowling, playing cards, taking trips to Vegas, and spending time with her sisters. Cass Lake was her favorite vacation destination. Above all, Kay treasured her family and loved having a full house.
