Lora Lou Byers, age 85 of Westbrook, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, April 1, 2024 at Our House Hospice of Murray County in Slayton. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2024 at LifePoint Church in Storden. Visitation will be 5:00-7:30 p.m. Friday, April 5 AT THE CHURCH and will continue one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Interment will be at a later date. Stephens Funeral Service – Westbrook Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Lora Lou Byers was born June 7, 1938 to Ernest and Mabel (Klarup) Peterson. She attended Bean Lake Country School. Lora graduated from Westbrook High School in 1956 and from South Dakota State University in 1960. She taught Home Economics in Worthington and Westbrook. On July 28, 1962, Lora married Duane Byers. The couple farmed and had two children, Lynn and Bruce. Lora accepted the Lord as her personal Savior at the age of 9. She was baptized soon after and joined Storden Baptist Church, where she served on the Women’s Missionary Society, and as a teacher, pianist, and assistant organist. She also sang in the church choir and with the women’s trio. Her hobbies included quilting, gardening, scrapbooking, violin, teaching piano, and spending time with her beloved grandchildren.
Lora is survived by her husband, Duane; children: Lynn (Brian) Berreth and Bruce (Paula) Byers; grandchildren: Jacob Berreth, and Joel (Cassidy), Bethany & Anna Byers. She is preceded in death by her parents.
