Mary Ann (Polejewski) Alcorn was born on Easter Sunday, April 1, 1934 at her parents’ home near Taunton. She was born to John and Mary (Kwiatkowski) Polejewski. She received the sacraments from the Catholic Church. Mary Ann graduated from Minneota High School in 1952, and shortly after graduation, she moved to Walnut Grove to live with her sister and brother-in-law, Vic and Harry Blawa. She took a job working as a bank teller at Citizens State Bank, and it was there that she met the love of her life, C. Donald “Sandy” Alcorn. They were married on June 11, 1955 at the Catholic Church in Minneota. Together, they farmed north of Walnut Grove, raising crops, cattle and hogs, and a family of four children. Mary Ann was a dedicated farmwife and worked hard alongside Sandy. In the 1970’s, Mary Ann, her sister Vic, and two friends, began Town and Country Catering where they catered special events for friends, family and community. Mary Ann also greatly enjoyed her part time job working for Dr. “Doc” Grefe at his veterinarian office. Mary Ann was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Walnut Grove where she served on the Altar Society and taught Religious Education classes. She enjoyed bowling, reading, embroidering, crossword and word search puzzles. Mary Ann baked literally thousands of loaves of bread and loved sharing them with family, friends and neighbors. Spending time outdoors, tending to flower and vegetable gardens and pet cats and dogs, or simply just taking in the sunshine, was Mary Ann’s favorite place to be. She loved listening to Twins baseball games, and especially loved going to Jackpot with Sandy and her sister-in-law Joyce to try her luck on the slot machines. A woman of few words and brief conversations, Mary Ann showed her love through acts of service to others – it was her love language.
Mary Ann is survived by her children: Cindy (Neil) Klapperich of Oakes, ND, Joe (Deb) Alcorn of Walnut Grove, Julie (Paul) Choudek of Lakeville, and Tim (Bobbie) Alcorn of Granite Falls; grandchildren: Elliot (Brittany) Klapperich, Austin (Melissa) Klapperich, Andy Alcorn, Taylor Choudek, Claire (Dan) Krokker, Peter Choudek, Tyler (Adria) Alcorn, Dalton (Courtney) Alcorn, Landon Alcorn, Steehl (Krista) O’Brien, Britta O’Brien, and Riley (fiancée Paige Andries) Alcorn; great grandchildren: VieAnn, Dane, Jameson and Asher Klapperich, Grace and Matthew Krokker, and Arabella, Adeline, and Andrew Alcorn; sister-in-law Marlene Polejewski; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Sandy, grandson Nathan Klapperich, and siblings: Vic Blawa, Lee Van den Berghe, Ed Polejewski, and Frank Polejewski.
