Melvin Joseph Gewerth was born July 9, 1959 to Alvin and Leona (Vogel) Gewerth in Redwood Falls, Minnesota.  He attended Wabasso Schools and later graduated from Morton High School.  On April 20, 1979, Mel was united in marriage to Julie Soupir at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Redwood Falls.  After graduation, Mel worked at numerous places including Specialty Engineering for 18 years, Warrior for 10 years, and finally Central Bi for 16 years until his retirement in 2018.  He enjoyed talking, visiting, helping others and going out to Mark Vangsness’ shop.  You could often find him mowing, moving snow, or working in the garage on small engines or on anything with an engine.  The lake was one of his favorite places to be, especially when he was camping, fishing, going for a pontoon ride, or ice fishing.  He enjoyed bowling and the outdoors, especially when he was 4-wheeling and hunting.  Mel loved cruising around in his ’57 Ford car and spending time with his grandchildren.
