Michael Richard VanDeWiele was born on July 4, 1953, to Richard and Pearl (Johnson) VanDeWiele in Tracy, MN. He graduated from Walnut Grove High School in 1971 and went on to further his education at Canby Vo-Tech. He enlisted in the Air National Guard and completed basic training between his junior and senior year of high school. He served for 6 years. Michael married Pamela Henkel in 1973, and together they were blessed with two children, Niki and Dusty. After raising their family, they later parted ways. He subsequently married Sherry Willeford and later Carol Johnson. While those marriages did not endure, Michael valued the time they spent together. Mike had a deep passion for farming, working for many years alongside his father raising hogs and crops before retiring in 2015. He was a member of the Walnut Grove Legion and Jaycees, and he treasured time spent ice fishing, golfing with friends, and many camping trips with his kids and group of friends.

Mike is survived by his children: Niki (Clay) Parker of Revere & Dusty (Jessie) VanDeWiele of Walnut Grove; grandchildren: Dylan (Shanaya) Albertson, Cole (Olivia) VanDeWiele, Porter (Hannah) Marsh & Leah VanDeWiele; brother Randy (Julie) VanDeWiele; brother-in-law Mark Tanghe; many step-grandchildren & great-grandchildren, and several nieces & nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard & Pearl, and his sister Becky Tanghe.
