Quentin “Red” Hal Castle, age 93 of Redwood Falls, passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, July 2, 2024. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2024 at Cornerstone Christian Church in Redwood Falls. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 11 at Redwood Valley Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Minnesota Veteran’s Cemetery – Redwood Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Cornerstone Christian Church, Redwood Falls, MN. Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Quentin“Red” Hal Castle was born November 2, 1930 to Roy Lee and Anna Susan (Taubert) Castle in Redwood Falls, MN. Quentin lived in North Redwood and Redwood Falls his entire life. He went to a one room North Redwood school for his early learning and then attended Redwood Falls High School until he graduated in 1948. After graduation, Quentin attended Minnesota Bible College in Minneapolis for one quarter.  He made many lifelong friends while attending there.  Besides working on the home farm, Quentin worked at the bowling alley setting pins from 1945-1948.  He then began working part time at the Redwood Falls Golf Course from 1948-1951 when he was drafted on November 7, 1951 into the United States Marine Corp.  He served for one year at Camp Pendleton, CA attending radio school while there. He was honorably discharged in 1952 to come home to help on the farm. When he returned home, he again took on extra jobs working at Mammen Corn Shelling for about 3 years and for Melges Produce from 1955-1962. Red went back to work at the Redwood Falls Golf Course in April of 1962 to be the Greens Superintendent.  He retired in 1992 but stayed on part time until 2013 making his career there spanning 56 years. While still working part time at the golf course, Quentin became janitor at the Cornerstone Christian Church and worked there for about 15 years. On May 5, 1956 Quentin married the love of his life, Letha Mae McClintock.  They resided below the hill, affectionately referred to by many as Castle’s Hill.  There they raised five children. Quentin was a member of the Redwood Falls Church of Christ, now Cornerstone Christian Church, since April 11, 1941. He taught Sunday school for many years from 5^th grade boys through adults. There he also served as a Deacon and an Elder for many years. In his early married life, Quentin enjoyed bowling in the men’s league; even receiving a recognition trophy for a high game of 258. He enjoyed being outdoors at the golf course and in his garden. He was an avid cribbage player, playing many games with family and with friends at the Redwood Area Community Center.

Quentin is survived by his wife of 68 years, Letha; 5 children: Charles (Dawn) Castle of Lynden, WA, Steven (Charlene) Castle of Redwood Falls, Linda (Curt) VanOverbeke of Marshall, Brenda McKnight of Fairmont and Wendy (Scott) von Wald of Rochester; 17 grandchildren: Jonathan Castle of Ferndale, WA, James (Katherine) Castle of Camino Island, WA, Katherine (Mark) Miller of Ferndale, WA, Jason Castle of Buckley, WA, Sabrina Castle of Roy, WA, Elizabeth Saunders of San Francisco, CA, Tiffany (Matthew) Smetak of Hector,  Cameron (Shelby) Castle of Redwood Falls, Jeremiah (Karla) VanOverbeke of Brookings, SD, Jesse (Kelli) VanOverbeke of Arlington, SD, Joshua VanOverbeke of Marshall, Kristina (Dylan) Sirny of Eden Prairie, Adam (Ashley) McKnight of Fairmont, Brian McKnight of Manhattan, KS, Gary McKnight of Fairmont, Hunter (Christa) von Wald of Circle Pines, and Dora von Wald of Rochester; 39 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren; sister: Josephine Hanson of Burnsville; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings: LeRoy (Vera) Castle, Eva (Jack) Daun, Edgar (Peggy) Castle, Dennis (Grace) Castle, Martin (Thelma) Castle; and son-in-law David McKnight.
