Roy Earl Syverson, 80, of Walnut Grove, MN, died Friday, November 13, 2020 at Ava’s House in Sioux Falls, SD after a long fight with cancer. Funeral services will be held Wednesday November 18, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Tracy Alliance Church, 311 Front Street, Tracy, MN with a burial to follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery. Visitation will take place one hour before the service at the church. Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions, GUESTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO WEAR A MASK and practice social distancing guidelines. A 50% indoor occupancy restriction will be maintained. Stephens Funeral Service – Walnut Grove Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Roy Earl Syverson was born June 24,1940 in Albert Lea, MN, the son of Roy and Bertha (Brann) Syverson. Roy graduated from Walnut Grove High School in 1958. He attended Hamline University and Dunwoody Technical Institute. He married Delores Nordsiden and they came back to the Walnut Grove area to farm. They celebrated 60 years of marriage this past June. Roy served many years as a Springdale township supervisor. He was an elder and Sunday School teacher at Tracy Alliance Church where he was a member. He impacted the lives of many young people through Thursday night Bible studies and mentorship.
Roy is preceded in death by his father, Roy and mother, Bertha. He is survived by his wife, Delores, of Walnut Grove; brother, Robert Syverson and his wife, Margaret, of Walnut Grove; sister, Bonnie Kor, and her husband, Henry of Mitchell, SD; son Jeff Syverson and his wife, Malou of Arnold CA; daughter, Deb Vickerman and her husband Tim of Lafayette, IN; grandchildren, Taylor, Tammy, Tiffany, and Tasha; great-grandchildren, Lydia, Owen, and Cooper and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
