Tim J. Frederiksen, age 63 of Redwood Falls, passed away suddenly on Friday, January 23, 2026 at CentraCare Hospital in Redwood Falls. A private service will be held in the spring. Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Tim J. Frederiksen was born October 19, 1962, to Ernest “Ernie” and Ellen (Rockwell) Frederiksen, Tim lived his entire life in Redwood, graduating from high school in 1982. He married Melanie LeBrun on July 2, 1999, and had two sons from a previous marriage: John and Justin.
He loved his family – Melanie, his sons and grandsons, and his parents who lived close by and were his best friends. He was a dedicated member of the Sons of the American Legion and a sweet and quiet man, at least until you got to know him!
A familiar friendly face at Walmart for 33 years, and at Morgan’s Red Owl for many years before that, he had a strong work ethic and worked hard as a single dad to support his boys.
Tim and Ernie enjoyed metal detecting and “scooting” around town on their scooters. He and Melanie loved camping, road trips and adventures, and finding treasures at auctions and garage sales. Tim reimagined what cast-off objects could be – license plates became birdhouses and his parents’ honeymoon suitcase became a table. In recent years, Tim was into metal scrapping, collecting everywhere – old lamps and appliances on the side of the road made his eyes light up, especially copper and brass! He spent many hours woodworking with his sons and later grandsons. Tim and Melanie had a seasonal spot at Kansas Lake for ten years. He loved building a campfire and many happy moments with family there. He was always proud of his grandsons and attended their musicals and sports events often.
He’s survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Melanie Frederiksen; sons John of St. Paul and Justin of Wahpeton; former daughter-in-law Bridget Panzram; grandsons Hunter Panzram, Wylee, Alex, and Eli Frederiksen; brother Dave (Ruth) Frederiksen; nieces and a nephew; sister-in-law Hallie (Eric) Anderson, parents-in-law Teri and Lynn Kratz and Cindy LeBrun; and special cat companions, Lester and Carl.
Tim was preceded in death by family including his parents, his grandpa Carl, beloved uncle George, and father-in-law Rich LeBrun.
