Virginia Surprenant, age 91 of Tracy, passed away Monday, May 9, 2022 at Prairie View Healthcare Center in Tracy.  Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2022 at the Tracy Area Funeral Home.  Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 12 at the Tracy Area Funeral Home with a Rosary at 6:30 p.m.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday.  Interment will be held at a later date.  

Virginia Kathryn (Pullen) Surprenant was born July 10, 1930 to Walter and Mildred (Ranweiler) Pullen in Olivia, Minnesota.  She attended Olivia Aloisianum grade school and graduated from Olivia High School in 1948.  After graduation Virginia attended St. Cloud Teachers College, finishing in 1950.  She taught elementary education in Tracy for two years, then St. Louis Park, and then returned to Tracy schools.  In 1953, she was married to Glenn Surprenant, and they were blessed with four children.  Virginia enrolled at Southwest Minnesota State College in 1967 and later graduated in 1971.  After teaching for 34 years, Virginia retired from Tracy Elementary School in 1993.  Virginia was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tracy.  She served at the Tracy Food Pantry and delivered Meals on Wheels.  Virginia enjoyed knitting, playing cards and reading. 

Virginia is survived by her husband Glenn; children: Steve (Julynn), Jane Mendez, Lynn Hannig and Dave (Julie); seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and her sisters Helen Blindauer and Georgia Schmid. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother George Pullen, and son-in-law Ron Hannig.
