Leonard Reck was born February 25, 1913 in Danube, Minnesota to Walter and Ella (Breitkreutz) Reck. He was united in marriage to Maxine Davis on June 20, 1941 on the Davis family farm. Leonard helped his father farm, and continued farming after his marriage to Maxine. The couple later moved to Minneapolis where Leonard worked for the Ford Motor Company. A few years later, the couple moved back to Redwood Falls and Leonard worked as a mechanic at Larson’s (presently known as Scott-Preusse). Later in life, Leonard hauled mail for the U.S. Postal Service and, at the same time, owned and operated the Tastee-Freeze (now known as Dari King). Leonard ran his own carpet-cleaning business for several years before his retirement. Leonard loved hunting, fishing and watching wrestling; and he and Maxine enjoyed travelling and going camping. Leonard had a passion for cars which started when he was a young boy and his father put him on a box to work on cars. He loved spending time with his family and friends. His eyes would light up when his grandchildren walked in. He had a twinkle in his eyes when he teased his great grandchildren and the nurses at Wood Dale.
Leonard is survived by his children: Vern (Suzan) of Brooklyn Center, Loretta (Don) Haen of Renville, Donna (Tom) Turek of Redwood Falls, Denny (Lyla) of LaSalle, CO, Jack (Sandi) of Redwood Falls, Audrey (Dennis) Domeier of Fairfax, Dianne (John) Curtis of Redwood Falls, Jean (Rich) Myers of Savage, Steve (Tami) of Burnsville, Peggy (Todd) Sherman of Franklin; 29 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sisters Joyce Scott of Henderson, NV, and Betty Reck of Oregon; brother Bob Reck of Colorado; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Maxine, son Larry, great-grandson Nathan, brothers Willard, Virgil, Ervin, and Merle, and sister Pearl. |
