Elizabeth Sorenson
Elizabeth “Liz” Jenniges Sorenson age 98 of Wabasso passed away Thursday, October 7, 2010 at the Golden Living Center in Wabasso.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 11 at St. Mathias Catholic Church in Wanda.
Visitation will be Sunday 3:00-7:00 p.m. AT THE CHURCH with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., and will continue one hour prior to services on Monday. Interment will be in St. Mathias Catholic Cemetery in Wanda. The Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Elizabeth Catherine Sorenson was born June 30, 1912 in Springfield, Minnesota to John B. and Elizabeth (Schneider) Roiger. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Springfield. Liz attended St. Raphael’s Catholic School through 11th grade. She was united in marriage to Aloysius (Luxxy) Jenniges on March 10, 1932 in St. Paul. Luxxy passed away December 19, 1968. Liz married Lowell Sorenson on October 7, 1978 in Wanda. Liz and Luxxy were farmers, with the last 50 years living on a farm near Wanda. She belonged to St. Mathias Catholic Church in Wanda, and was very active in the church. She sang many solos for weddings and sang many Requiem (funeral) High Masses doing solos in Latin. She was a member of CCW, serving as president, and the National Society of Foresters. Liz did foster care from 1966 until 1990, taking care of nine foster children during this time. She also cared for many nieces, nephews, and unrelated children who would like to spend the summer on the farm. Liz studied and received her GED when she was over 60 years old, and worked as a teacher’s aide at the Wabasso High School from 1970-1980. She loved raising her 9 children and foster children. Playing cards was one of her greatest joys, as well as doing crossword puzzles, baking, and raising a big vegetable garden and flowers.

She is preceded in death by husbands Aloysius Jenniges and Lowell Sorenson, brothers Adolf and Albert Roiger, sisters Marie Ochs and Anna Margaret Steffel, and son-in-law Marvin Beranek. |
