Florence “Flossy” Marie TenCate was born November 25, 1925 in Holland, Minnesota to William and Elsie (Weinkauf) Thomas. She was baptized in 1925 and confirmed in 1939 at St. James Lutheran Church in Holland. She attended elementary school in Holland and graduated from the Morris Agricultural School. Flossy was united in marriage to Robert TenCate on October 18, 1947 at St. James Lutheran Church. They lived in the Edgerton and Woodstock area and she worked as a nurses aid at Pipestone County Hospital. Robert passed away in 1964 and Florence and the family moved to the Ruthton area where she resided since. She sold Avon for a number of years, helped at the Ruthton Laundromat and worked at the Polar Bar for over 18 years, while raising seven children on her own. She was a member of the ladies auxilliary in Ruthton, was an accomplished soloist at church, enjoyed bowling, baking, cooking, canning, playing yahtzee, scrabble, fishing, birdwatching, and riding her “two wheeled” pink Cadillac. She enjoyed spending time with her family – especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved to give everyone “hugs” and had a “gift of gab”.
Florence is survived by her children: Robert (Bonnie) TenCate of Albany, TX, Leatha (Doug) Griffin of Edgerton, Rhonda (Bob) Spencer of Lake Benton, Aurora (David) Ankrum of Lynd, Jan (Len) Roschen of Fairmont, Randall (Jean) TenCate of Tyler, Renata Norgaard of Tyler; 14 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; two brothers Lorence (Alma) Thomas of Pipestone and William (Rhoda) Thomas of Oakes, ND and many other relatives and friends.
