Evelyn D. Stephens age 90 of Redwood Falls passed away on Saturday, May 08, 2010 at the Golden Living Center in Olivia.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Redwood Falls with Pastor Jan Redman officiating.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Redwood Valley Funeral Home in Redwood Falls, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.  Interment is in the Redwood Falls Cemetery.  The Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Evelyn was born August 13, 1919 in Webster City, IA to Melvin & Bertha (McGuire) Thoma.  As a child, she lived in the Lamberton area with her family.  On October 10, 1939, Evelyn was united in marriage to Art Stephens at the Methodist Church in Redwood Falls.  Together the couple lived in the Redwood Falls area.  Evelyn worked for 22 years at JC Penny, and later worked a variety of other jobs.  She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church, and was a former member of the Degree of Honor.  Evelyn enjoyed spending time outdoors, being amongst nature, camping and spending time at the lake.  In her younger years, Evelyn enjoyed playing softball where she was the pitcher on the team.  Her greatest love was spending time with her friends and family.  She especially enjoyed the family picnics and all the little children.

Evelyn is survived by her children: Caren Swoboda and husband Lewis of Redwood Falls, Roger Stephens and wife Karen of Sleepy Eye, Randy Stephens of Redwood Falls and Brad Stephens and wife Sue of Redwood Falls; daughter in law Ardis Stephens of Redwood Falls; 16 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter and many other relatives and friends.  Preceding her in death are her parents, husband Art, son Ken, grandson Rick, great grandson Shawn Gewerth, brothers Elston W. Thoma, Lawrence Thoma & Keith Thoma in infancy and many friends.
