Hazel Anne Thooft was born April 5, 2006 in Hutchinson, MN to Matthew and Bernadette (DeCann) Thooft.  She was currently in the 2nd grade at St. Anne’s Catholic School in Wabasso.  Hazel loved school, her teachers, and classmates.  She enjoyed reading and drawing pictures for people, and was a good artist.  Hazel loved to dance and sing.  She liked to help people and enjoyed fundraising for the school and church, calling people herself and going door to door.  Hazel loved cartoons and made Minion voices from “Despicable Me”.  Hazel was very independent, often choosing her own mismatched clothing and wearing several shirts at a time.  She liked to do things her own way.

Hazel is survived by her parents Matt and Bernadette Thooft; siblings: Zachary, 11, her twin brother Augustus, 7, Maxwell, 4, Abigail, 4, and Beatrice Grace, 2; grandparents Leona Thooft of Tyler and Barbara DeCann of Belview (formerly of Osakis); godparents Mary Benson of Castroville, TX, and Valerie Koelln of Hutchinson; many aunts and uncles; and other relatives and friends.  She is preceded in death by two infant siblings, grandfathers Amandus Thooft and Don DeCann, and brother Isaiah.

Isaiah Matthew Thooft was born November 21, 2009 in Mankato, MN.  He was baptized at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Lucan.  Isaiah attended pre-school at Wabasso Public School.  He loved school and his teacher.  Isaiah liked playing hide and seek and playing tricks on people.  He loved to help and shadowed his parents wherever they went.  Isaiah liked helping his dad with chores and feeding the animals.  He was very curious and wanted to know what you were doing.  Isaiah loved to be snuggled, squeezed with big hugs, and tickled.  He was always very talkative whether people were there or not.  Isaiah loved books and being read to, and visited the library several times a week.  He loved his little sister, and protected and watched out for her.  Isaiah loved to laugh and had a big grin.

  34. Darren Lutterman says:

Matt and family, You are in my thoughts and prayers. We don’t have any kids, but I still couldn’t imagine what you are going through. I’ve been on the Tyler Fire Dept. for 12 years and luckily we haven’t had to respond to any calls like that. Being in a small town it’s so hard to separate the calls from everyday life. Again your family has our deepest condolences!

  35. Tiffany Stewart says:

Dear Thooft family: We have never met but as a mother who has lost a child I understand the deep pain and hole within your hearts. Don’t be afraid to cry when you feel the tears within your eyes, or laugh when something funny happens, or walk away when you need your space. People say time heals all wounds, but honestly in this situation I have learned that time doesn’t heal that empty feeling you have in your heart, it just makes each day easier to get out of bed. With tears in my eyes for you, I pray that God gives you the strength and comfort to get through what will be the hardest days of your lives.

  36. Chris,Lee,and the Girls says:

  42. Beth Richter says:

    Dear Thooft family,
I don’t know you but I am heartbroken. I don’t have kids of my own, but I have lost a sister and a goddaughter and the pain is very real. My heart goes out to you!! As one person said, Jesus said to “suffer the little children to come unto me”. We’ve been told to love the people in our lives with all of our hearts and to tell them that we love them because God is going to need them back someday. Obviously God has a plan for your beautiful little Hazel and Isaiah. They are Christmas angels. I know that doesn’t make you feel any better right now while the pain of their loss is still fresh, but one day it will all make sense and will bring you peace. God bless you with comfort and surround you with prayers!!

  43. Jackson Family says:

Please accept our deepest sympathy in the loss of your precious children. Our hearts goes out to the family because death is something we will never get used to. In fact God’s word refers to death as a enemy.
    ( 1 Corinthians 15:26).
Very soon our loving heavenly father will remove death once and for all and give us the opportunity to see our loved ones again. ( John 5:28,29). May these words be a source of comfort during this difficult time.

  44. Bernadette, matt and kids-
