Sylvester J. Hoffmann age 89 of Lucan passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at Golden Living Center in Wabasso.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Lucan.  Visitation is 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday at the church with a Rosary service at 6:30 p.m.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.  Interment is in Our Lady of Victory Catholic Cemetery in Lucan.   Stephens Funeral Service – Redwood Valley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Sylvester J. Hoffmann was born July 13, 1922 in Wabasso, MN to Joseph and Mary (Salfer) Hoffmann.  He was baptized and confirmed at St. Anne’s Church in Wabasso.  Sylvester attended Wabasso country school district #76.  On May 7, 1946 he was united in marriage to Marion Brau at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Lucan.  After marriage, Sylvester farmed outside of Lucan until he retired at age 70, and then moved into Lucan.  After retirement, Sylvester kept active volunteering at the church and cemetery, and within the community.  For the last year and a half he was a resident at Golden Living Center in Wabasso.  Sylvester was a longtime member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Lucan where he was active in the Catholic Aid Association, and served as usher.  He was also a member of the Lucan Lions Club.  Sylvester enjoyed playing cards, fishing, and woodworking.  He liked visiting with friends and family.  Sylvester had a calming personality and was content with holding a grandchild or great grandchild in his arms.

Sylvester is survived by his wife Marion of 65 years; children: Kathleen “Bootsie” (Rick) Armagost of Mounds View, James (Judy) Hoffmann of Marshall, Susan (Douglas) Roiger of Winnebago, and Thomas (Glenda) Hoffmann of Delavan; 9 grandchildren: Nathan (Becka) Armagost, Andrea Armagost, Jennifer Hoffmann, Janelle (Dale) Verschelde, Carrie (Erik) Amundson, Jerome (fiancee Abigail) Roiger, Curtis (Ellen) Roiger, David Roiger, and Sean Hoffmann; 10 great grandchildren; sisters Marcella (Cyril) Gengler of Adrian and Lorraine Wagner of Wabasso; sister-in-law Barb Hoffmann of Scobey, MT; and many other relatives and friends.  He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Louis, Leonard, and Cletus Hoffmann; and sisters Alvina Remiger and Lucy Bernardy.
