Don E. Anderson age 87 of Spencer, Iowa, formerly of Walnut Grove, passed away Thursday, July 31, 2014 at the Spencer Municipal Hospital. A memorial service will be held in Don’s honor on Monday, August 4 at Living Word Outreach Ministries, 905 10th Ave SE, Spencer, IA at 6:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., with visitation starting at 1:00 p.m., on Tuesday, August 5 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church located at 21953 County Road 7, Walnut Grove, MN. Interment will be in the St. Olaf Lutheran Church Cemetery following the service. Refreshments will be served after the interment and military honors. Don Everett Anderson, the son of Harry Anderson and Rowena (Knudson) Anderson, was born in Westbrook, MN on September 24, 1926. Don grew up on a farm south of Walnut Grove, MN where he attended country grade school. He graduated from Walnut Grove High School and was active in sports. After high school graduation Don entered the United States Army attaining the rank of Private First Class. During his military deployment and while being shipped overseas for combat duty, the war ended. He was then stationed for occupational duty in Japan. After military service and his honorable discharge, Don returned home to the family farm. He continued his education by attending two years of Agricultural School. He met and married Helen Jeanne Radtke and they settled on a farm south of Walnut Grove, MN. Don & Helen were blessed with five children. After several years of farming, Don worked as an adjustor for Federal Crop Insurance. Later, he started his own business as a Federal Crop Insurance agent in Windom, MN. The family lived in Windom, MN for five years. In 1973, Don achieved his Introducing Brokers licenses and opened a Commodities Brokerage firm in Emmetsburg, IA. He sold the Emmetsburg firm to his partner in 1975 and moved his family to Spencer, Iowa. He then opened a new brokerage firm called AA Commodities which has been in business for 39 years. In total, Don has been extremely active as a commodities broker for 41 years. We, as a family, commend him for being a man of honesty and integrity. Don was also a Christian who served and loved the Lord. He will be missed greatly by his family, customers, and friends.
Don is survived by: His wife Helen Anderson of Spencer, IA; his daughter, Brady Jo Hare of Spencer, IA; his son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Teri Anderson of Orange City, IA; and his 5 grandchildren: Samuel and Libby Jo Hare of Spencer, IA. Tyler, Kyle and Michael Anderson of Orange City, IA. He is also survived by his brothers & sisters-in-law: Ted Anderson of Walnut Grove, MN, Ardell & Janet Anderson of Tracy, MN, Ron & Carol Anderson of Colorado Springs, CO; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. Don is now rejoicing in Heaven with his son Erik Anderson and two infant daughters, his parents, infant sister and brother Dick.

sorry to hear of Don’s passing. Right away I thought of Harry and Rowaena coming to visit us down the road from your house. All those 5 boys. We played cards and rode those big horse’s around some. Blessings to your family. Donna.
